The Costa Blanca is famous for its numerous and colorful fiestas throughout the year. Here are the biggest and most spectacular fiestas to see:

Las Hogueras de San Juan (St. John's Fires) - Alicante (June 20-24)
The most important fiesta in Alicante, compared to Las Fallas in Valencia. Huge papier-mâché sculptures are erected in the city and spectacularly set on fire on the last night of the festival. This is accompanied by fireworks displays, parades and traditional dances.

Moros y Cristianos (Moors and Christians) - Alcoy, Villajoyosa, Denia, Pego (April-October)
Spectacular reenactments of historic battles between Moors and Christians that took place in the Middle Ages. The most famous are held in Alcoy (April), Villajoyosa (July) and Denia and Pego (August).

Carnival in Alicante and also in Pego (February/March, before Lent)
Parades, costumes, dances and street parties. The carnival ends with the symbolic "Burial of the Sardine" - the burning of a large statue of the fish.

Semana Santa (Holy Week) - Alicante, Orihuela, Elche (March/April)
Easter processions with impressive sculptures and orchestras. Orihuela and Elche are famous for having the most beautiful celebrations on the Costa Blanca.

Fiesta de los Patrones - Benidorm (November)
Benidorm's biggest festival, celebrated in honor of the city's patron saints. It lasts a week and includes parades, concerts and fireworks displays.
